Guatavita Lagoon and Nemocón Tour

The trip leaves at 8 am from the hotel and takes an hour and a half. The idea is to take the limestone quarries over the mountain to pass through Guasca. In Guasca you stop at a nursery where the owner talks to you about the magic of plants as a nice adventure. Then you go directly to the Guatavita Lagoon where the guides, who are native indigenous people, talk to you about their beliefs, the legend of the lagoon and its plants with special properties. This is a short walk that takes you to the lagoon, taking two hours and 15 minutes back and forth to the van. Then you go to have lunch in the town, get to know a little bit and spend an hour and a half there, and then you go directly to the Tatacoita desert.

We invite you on a journey through the magic of nature and time. We will discover the natural history of the Bogotá Savannah in one of the most beautiful places closest to the capital: The Checua dry forest (also called the Tatacoita desert), one of the most important archaeological and paleontological areas in the country.

There you can find a time sequence of 65 million years of history until the present. We will learn the key aspects about its formation, its environmental context and we will talk about human occupation in the Sábana de Bogotá, from its first settlers until today.

We will discover the connection between clay and salt in these territories and their economic, historical and geological importance while we enjoy hiking where we will breathe fresh air and find the most beautiful landscapes that the area offers us. During the tour we will discover the importance of the Condalias forest described by Tomás Vander Hammen and its importance for the restoration of the strategic ecosystems of the Bogotá savannah.

We return to Bogotá almost at the end of the afternoon, starting the night, arriving at 8 pm to get ready and then go out to the Andres Carne de Res restaurant to eat and listen to good music.
